Intoday'sfast-pacedworld,weoftenforgettoappreciatethebeautyofeverydaylife.Wegetcaughtupinourroutinesandforgettostopandsmelltheroses.Butforoneman,themundanewashismuse.Hisjourneyasapoetbeganwhenhestartedseeingpoetryineverythingaroundhim.Danielhadalwaysbeendrawntothewrittenword,butitwasn'tuntilhestumbleduponapoemaboutatreethatherealizedhistruepassion.Hewasamazedathowthepoetwasabletocapturetheessenceofthetreeandmakeitcomealiveonpaper.Fromthatmomenton,Danielbegantoseepoetryeverywherehewent.Hewouldfindinspirationinthemostunlikelyofplaces-inthewaytheraindropsdancedonhiscarwindoworhowthesunsetoverthehorizon.Hebegantocarryanotebookwithhimwhereverhewent,jottingdownhisobservationsandturningthemintopoems.
Despitehisnewfoundpassion,Danielfoundithardtosharehisworkwithothers.Hewasafraidofbeingjudgedandcriticizedforhiswriting.Butwithencouragementfromhisfriends,hedecidedtoattendanopenmicnightatalocalcoffeeshop.Ashesteppeduptothemicrophone,hishandstrembling,Danielfeltlikehewasputtingapieceofhimselfouttherefortheworldtosee.Butashebegantorecitehispoem,hefeltasenseoffreedomandliberationwashoverhim.Itwasn'tlongbeforeDanielbecamearegularattheopenmicnights,sharinghispoemswithasmallbutappreciativeaudience.Hisconfidencegrew,andhestartedsubmittinghisworktoliterarymagazinesandjournals.Butevenashiswritingcareertookoff,Danielneverforgothisroots.Hestillfoundinspirationinthesimplethings,likethewaytheleavesrustledinthewindorhowthesnowblanketedtheground.
Oneday,Danielreceivedaninvitationtoattendapoetryworkshopinaremotevillageinthemountains.Excitedattheprospectofmeetingotherpoetsandlearningfromthem,heeagerlyacceptedtheinvitation.Thejourneytothevillagewaslongandarduous,butashegazedoutofthewindowofthebus,Danielcouldn'thelpbutfeelinspiredbythestunningscenerythatsurroundedhim.Thetoweringmountains,theglisteningrivers,andthelushforestsallseemedtobecallingouttohim,beggingtobecapturedinapoem.Whenhefinallyarrivedatthevillage,Danielwasgreetedbyagroupofpoetsfromallovertheworld.Theyspenttheirdaysattendingworkshops,discussingtheirwriting,andexploringthebeautyofthesurroundinglandscape.ItwasduringoneoftheseworkshopsthatDanielmetMaria,afellowpoetfromBrazil.Theybondedovertheirsharedloveofpoetryandspenthourstalkingabouttheirfavoritewritersandsharingtheirownworkwitheachother.
Astheworkshopcametoaclose,DanielknewhehadfoundakindredspiritinMaria.Theyexchangedcontactinformationandpromisedtostayintouch.Backhome,Danielfeltinspiredlikeneverbefore.Theworkshophadgivenhimarenewedsenseofpurposeandadesiretokeepwriting.Hepouredhisheartandsoulintohiswork,hopingtocaptureevenafractionofthebeautyhehadseeninthemountains.Butlifehasawayofgettingintheway,andsoonDanielfoundhimselfcaughtupinworkandotherresponsibilities.Hiswritingbegantosufferasaresult,andhefeltlikehehadlosthisspark.Oneday,ashewaswalkingthroughthepark,Danielsawayoungboyplayingwithakite.Thesightoftheboy'scarefreelaughterandthewaythekitedancedinthewindbroughtasmiletohisface.
ItwasthenthatDanielrealizedthathehadbeenlookingforinspirationinallthewrongplaces.Thetruebeautyofpoetrylaynotinthegrandgesturesorthebreathtakingvistasbutintheeverydaymomentsthatweoftentakeforgranted.Withrenewedvigor,Danielstartedwritingagain,thistimefocusingonthesmalldetailsoflifethathadalwaysbeentherebutthathehadnevertrulyseenbefore.Hewroteaboutthewayacupofcoffeetastedonacoldmorningorthesoundofhisdaughter'slaughter.Hewroteaboutthewaythecloudslookedlikecottoncandyorthefeelofsandbetweenhistoes.Andashewrote,hefeltasenseofjoyandsatisfactionthathehadneverfeltbefore.Heknewthathispoetrywouldneverchangetheworld,butitdidn'tmatter.Whatmatteredwasthatitbroughthimhappinessandasenseoffulfillment.
Yearswentby,andDanielcontinuedtowriteandsharehisworkwithothers.Hepublishedseveralcollectionsofpoetryandevenwonafewawardsalongtheway.Butwhatmatteredmosttohimwastheknowledgethathehadstayedtruetohimselfandhisloveofpoetry.Hehadfoundbeautyinthemundaneandhadlearnedtoappreciatetheworldaroundhiminawayhehadneverthoughtpossible.Ashelookedbackonhisjourneyasapoet,Danielknewthatithadallstartedwithasimplepoemaboutatree.Thatonepoemhadopenedupaworldofpossibilitiesandhadtaughthimtoseetheworldinanewlight.Andso,ashesatdowntowritehislatestpoem,Danielcouldn'thelpbutsmile.Heknewthatinspirationwasalwaysjustaroundthecorner,waitingtobediscoveredinthemostunlikelyofplaces.Forhim,poetrywasnotjustapassion,itwasawayoflife.
