This is the story of one such bridge, and the lives it touched.ItwasabeautifulsummerdaywhenSarahfirstsawthebridge.Shewaswalkingalongtheriverbank,lostinthought,whenshecaughtaglimpseofitthroughthetrees.Itwasanoldstonebridge,witharchesthatspannedtheriverlikeoutstretchedarms.Shefeltdrawntoit,asifitwascallingtoher.Assheapproachedthebridge,shenoticedamanstandingatitsmidpoint,gazingoutoverthewater.Helookedsadandlost,likehehadaheavyburdenonhisshoulders.Sarahhesitatedforamoment,thendecidedtoapproachhim.
Themanturnedtoher,hiseyesredandswollenfromtears."No,"hewhispered."I'velostsomeoneIlove."Sarahfeltapangofsympathyforhim.Sheknewwhatitwasliketolosesomeonedear."I'msorry,"shesaid."Doyouwanttotalkaboutit?"Themanhesitated,thennodded."HernamewasEmily,"hesaid."Shewasmywife.Weusedtocomehereallthetime,tothisbridge.Itwasourspecialplace."SarahlistenedintentlyasthemantoldheraboutEmily,howtheyhadmetincollege,fellinlove,gotmarried,andhadadaughternamedLily.ButthenEmilygotsick,anddespitetheirbestefforts,shedidn'tmakeit.

"David,"shesaid."Iappreciateyourfeelings,andIfeelthesamewayaboutyou.Butwehavetotakethingsslow,andseewhereitleadsus."Davidnodded,asmileonhislips."Iunderstand,"hesaid."I'llwaitforyou,aslongasittakes."Overthenextfewmonths,SarahandDavidbecameinseparable.Theywouldgoonwalks,picnics,andmovienights,sharingtheirhopesanddreamswitheachother.Theyalsovisitedthebridgeoften,andwouldleavesmalltokensoftheirlovethere,likeflowers,stones,andpoems.Butthen,oneday,tragedystruckagain.David'sdaughterLilywasdiagnosedwithleukemia,andhadtoundergoabonemarrowtransplant.Davidwasbesidehimselfwithworryandfear,andSarahdidallshecouldtosupporthim.
Theyspentmanyhoursatthehospital,holdinghands,readingbooks,andtalkingtoLily.Sarahfeltlikeshehadgainedanewfamily,andlovedLilylikeherownchild.Afterseveralweeksofintensetreatment,Lily'sconditionimproved,andshewasallowedtogohome.Davidwasoverjoyed,andthankedSarahforbeingthereforhimandhisdaughter.Astheystoodonthebridge,watchingthesunsetovertheriver,Sarahfeltasenseofpeaceandfulfillment.Shehadfoundanewhome,anewfamily,andanewlove.Andsheknewthatnomatterwhatthefutureheld,thebridgeofmemorieswouldalwaysbethereforher,asymbolofhopeandconnection.
