Peeringthroughherbinoculars,shespotsafamilyofdeergrazingpeacefullyinthemeadow.Sheobservesthemforawhile,takingnoteoftheirbehaviorandmovements.Suddenly,shehearsaloudroarfromthedistance.Sherecognizesitastheroarofalion,whichsendsshiversdownherspine.Sarahknowsthatlionsrarelyventureintothisarea,butdecidestoinvestigatenonetheless.Shecautiouslymakesherwaytowardsthesoundoftheroar.Assheroundsabendinthetrail,shecomesface-to-facewithamajesticlioness.Thelionessstaresatherwithpiercingeyes,andSarahfreezesinfear.
Thelionesssniffstheair,butdoesn'tseemtobeinterestedinattackingSarah.Sheturnsaroundandwalksaway,disappearingintothebushes.Aftertheinitialshockwearsoff,Sarahfeelsgratefulfortheencounter.Shetakesnotesonthelioness'sphysicalcharacteristicsandbehavior,awedbythebeautyandpoweroftheanimal.Continuingherjourney,shestumblesuponagroupofplayfulmonkeysswingingfromtreetotree.Shewatchesthemwithamusementastheychatterandgroomeachother.Onemonkeycatcheshereyeinparticular.Itseemstobetheleaderofthegroup,exhibitingconfidentbehaviorandcommandingtheattentionoftheothers.
