Overthenextfewweeks,Lucycontinuedtoshowmesmallactsofkindnessthatmadeabigdifference.Shewouldbringmemyfavoriteteawhenwemetupforcoffee,sendmefunnymemestomakemelaugh,andeveninvitedmeoverforahomemademealwhenIwasfeelingparticularlystressedout.Astheholidaysapproached,Lucysurprisedmeagain.ShehadorganizedasecretSantagiftexchangewithourgroupoffriends,andhadgoneoutofherwaytopicktheperfectgiftforme.WhenIopeneditonChristmasmorning,Iwasfilledwithjoy-itwassomethingIhadbeeneyeingformonthsbutnevergotaroundtobuyingformyself.Throughoutthewinter,Lucycontinuedtobeasourceofwarmthandcomfortforme.Wespenteveningscurleduponmycouchwatchingmovies,wenticeskatingattherinkintown,andeventookaweekendtriptoacozycabininthewoods.Astheseasondrewtoaclose,Irealizedsomethingimportant-itwasn'tjustthewinterthathadchangedforme.Itwasmyperspectiveonlife.WithLucy'shelp,Ihadlearnedtoappreciatethelittlemomentsofjoythatcamemyway.Ifeltgratefulforherfriendshipandallthewaysshehadshownmekindness.

Now,wheneverthewinterbluesstarttocreepin,IthinkofLucyandallthewaysshebroughtmewarmthduringthatseason.Ireachouttofriends,makeplansforfunwinteractivities,andremindmyselfthatthereisalwayssomethingtobegratefulfor.I'vealsolearnedtopayitforward.Toshowkindnesstoothers,justasLucydidforme.Tospreadwarmthandjoywheneverpossible,especiallyduringthecoldermonthswhenit'sneededmost.Winterwillneverbemyfavoriteseason.ButthankstoLucyandthewarmthshebroughtintomylife,it'snolongeratimeofdreadandmisery.It'satimeofopportunity-anopportunitytoappreciatethepeoplewelove,toenjoythecozycomfortsofhome,andtospreadkindnesswhereverwego.AsIthinkbackonthatwinter,Iamfilledwithgratitudeforthegiftoffriendship.Forthewarmthandjoyitbringsintoourlives,evenduringthecoldestmonthsoftheyear.
