Oneday,asshewasstaringoutatthesnow-coveredlandscape,Lilynoticedsomethingdifferent.Therewasasplashofcolorinthemidstofallthewhite.Itwasatree,coveredinbrightredberries.Itwasasifthetreewasremindingherthateveninthemidstofwinter,therewasstillbeautytobefound.ThesightoftheredberriessparkedsomethinginsideofLily.Sherealizedthatsheneededtogetoutofherapartmentandstartlivingagain.Shebundledupinherwarmestcoatandboots,andheadedoutintothewinterwonderland.Asshewalkedthroughthesnowystreets,Lilynoticedallsortsofcolorsthatshehadneverpaidattentiontobefore.Thebluetintofthesnowintheshadows,thepalepinkoftheskyasthesunset,andtheorangeglowofstreetlightsagainstthewhitebackground.Lilyrealizedthatwinterwasn'tjustonecolor.Itwasawholespectrumofcolors,eachonemorebeautifulthanthelast.Shebegantoseetheworldinanewlight,anditgaveherasenseofhopethatshehadn'tfeltinalongtime.

AsLilywalked,shebegantonoticeotherpeopleenjoyingthewinteraswell.Kidssleddingdownhills,coupleswalkinghandinhand,andfamiliesbuildingsnowmentogether.Shesawhowwinterbroughtpeopletogether,howitcreatedopportunitiesforconnectionandjoy.Lily'snewfoundsenseofoptimismwasputtothetestwhenshereceivedaletterfromherhusband'sfamily.Theywantedhertocometotheirannualwintergathering,somethingshehadalwayslookedforwardtobeforehispassing.Lilywashesitanttogo.Sheknewitwouldbepainfultobearoundallthosememories,allthosepeoplewhoremindedherofthelifeshehadlost.Butshealsoknewthatitwastimetofacehergriefhead-onandtrytomoveforward.Thedayofthegatheringarrived,andLilybundledupinherwarmestclothesandheadedoutintothesnowylandscapeonceagain.Asshewalked,shefeltamixofemotions-sadness,fear,butalsoaglimmerofhope.

Whenshearrivedatthegathering,shewasgreetedwarmlybyherhusband'sfamily.Theywelcomedherwithopenarms,andthoughitwasdifficultatfirst,Lilyfoundherselflaughingandreminiscingwiththemastheysharedstoriesandmemories.Thegatheringwasfullofcolor-fromtheredsandgreensofthedecorationstothewarmhuesofthefireplace.Lilyrealizedthateveninthemidstofgrief,therewasstilljoytobefound.Shefeltgratefultohavethesepeopleinherlife,gratefulforthememoriestheyshared.Asthenightworeon,LilyfoundherselfdrawntoamannamedTom.Hewasafriendofthefamily,andthoughtheyhadneverspokenmuchbefore,theyfoundthemselvestalkingforhours.Tomhadalsoexperiencedlossinhislife,andtheybondedovertheirsharedexperiences.ThemoreshespokewithTom,themoreLilyrealizedthatshewasreadytostartlivingagain.Shedidn'twanttobestuckinhergriefforever,shewantedtofindloveandhappinessonceagain.Tomgaveherhopethatitwaspossible.

Asthenightcametoanend,LilysaidgoodbyetoTomandherhusband'sfamily.Shefeltasenseofpeaceandcontentmentthatshehadn'tfeltinalongtime.Sheknewthattherewouldstillbedifficultdaysahead,butshefeltmoreequippedtohandlethemnow.Lilycontinuedtoexplorethecolorfulwinter,takinginallthesightsandsoundswithnewfoundappreciation.Shefoundherselfventuringoutmoreandmore,tryingnewthingsandmeetingnewpeople.Oneday,asshewaswalkingthroughapark,Lilynoticedagroupofpeopleiceskatingonafrozenpond.Shehadneverbeeniceskatingbefore,butsomethingaboutthesightofthosepeoplehavingfuninthewintersunmadeherwanttotry.Sherentedapairofskatesandcautiouslysteppedoutontotheice.Atfirst,shewaswobblyandunsure,butasshegainedconfidence,shefoundherselfglidingacrosstheicewithease.Shelaughedandshoutedwithjoy,feelingmorealivethanshehadinmonths.
