Aswegrowolder,memoriesofouryouthbecomemoreandmoreprecious.Formanyofus,theserecollectionsarefilledwithacertainkindoflove-thekindthatweburieddeepinourhearts,nevertobespokenofagain.Butwhatif,oneday,weweretorediscoverthatloveandallowittoreigniteourpassion?Thisisthestoryofawomanwhodidjustthat.Lilahadalwaysbeenadreamer.Growingupinasmalltown,shespentcountlesshourslostinherownimagination,dreamingofadventureandtruelove.Butasshegrewolder,thepracticalitiesoflifepushedherdreamsaside.Shemarriedyoungandsettledintoalifeofroutineandresponsibility.Yearspassed,andLilafoundherselffeelingunfulfilled.Hermarriagewascomfortablebutlackedthepassionshehadalwayscraved.Andso,shefoundherselfturningtohermemoriesofyouth,seekingsolaceintheloveshehadoncedreamedof.

Oneday,asshewascleaningoutherattic,Lilastumbleduponanoldboxfilledwithlettersandtrinketsfromherteenageyears.Asshesiftedthroughthecontents,memoriesfloodedbacktoher-memoriesofapassionateloveaffairthathadburnedbrightlybutendedtoosoon.TheboyinquestionwasnamedAlex,andhehadbeeneverythingLilahadeverwanted.Hewassmart,funny,andadventurous,andhehadsweptheroffherfeetfromthemomenttheymet.Theyspentlongsummerdaysexploringthecountrysideandsharingtheirhopesanddreams.Butwhenthesummerended,Alexhadtoleavetowntoattendcollege.Lilawasheartbroken,buttheypromisedtokeepintouch.Asthemonthspassed,however,theirlettersbecamelessfrequent,andLilaeventuallystoppedwritingaltogether.YearshadgonebysinceLilahadlastheardfromAlex.Butasshesatinherattic,surroundedbymemoriesoftheirtimetogether,shefeltasuddenurgetoreachouttohim.

Aftersomesearching,LilamanagedtotrackAlexdownonline.Shehesitatedbeforesendinghimamessage,unsureofhowhewouldreact.Butwhenherespondedwithenthusiasm,sheknewthatshehadmadetherightchoice.Theyexchangedmessagesforweeks,catchinguponeachother'slivesandreminiscingaboutoldtimes.Lilawassurprisedathoweasilytheyfellbackintotheiroldbanter,andsoontheyweremakingplanstomeetinperson.Thedayoftheirreunionarrived,andLilawasnervousasshemadeherwaytothecoffeeshopwheretheyhadagreedtomeet.ButwhenshesawAlexwaitingforher,asmilespreadacrossherface.Theyspenthourscatchingupovercoffee,talkingabouteverythingfromtheirjobstotheirfamilies.Astheconversationturnedtotheirpast,however,Lilacouldfeelthefamiliarsparkofattractionignitinginsideheronceagain.

Asthedayworeon,Lilafoundherselfwantingtoholdontothisfeelingforever.Shesuggestedtheytakeawalkinthepark,andastheystrolledalongthetree-linedpaths,theyfoundthemselveslostinmemoriesoftheiryouth.Asthesunbegantoset,theysatdownonabenchoverlookingthelake.AlextookLila'shand,andshefeltarushofemotionthatshehadn'tfeltinyears.Theysatinsilenceforawhile,watchingthesundipbelowthehorizon.Finally,AlexturnedtoLilaandsaid,"I'veneverstoppedthinkingaboutyou,youknow.NotadaygoesbythatIdon'twishwecouldgobacktothosesummerdays."Lilafelttearswellingupinhereyesasshelookedathim.Sheknewexactlyhowhefelt."Metoo,"shewhispered.

Forafewmoments,theysatinsilenceonceagain,lostintheirownthoughts.Then,Alexleanedinandkissedhersoftlyonthelips.Lila'sheartskippedabeatassherealizedthatthepassionshehadalwayscravedwasstillthere.Astheyparted,LilalookedintoAlex'seyesandsawthathefeltittoo.Theyknewthattheycouldn'tgobacktothewaythingswerebefore,buttheyalsoknewthattheydidn'twantto.Intheweeksandmonthsthatfollowed,LilaandAlexsaweachotherfrequently.Theywentonlongdrivesandwalks,exploringtheworldaroundthemastheyhaddonesomanyyearsbefore.Lilafoundthatrediscoveringtheloveshehadhiddenawayforsolonggaveherarenewedsenseofpurpose.Shebegantopursueherowndreamsagain,takinguppaintingandwriting-passionsshehadletgoofforyears.

AsLilaandAlexspentmoretimetogether,theyrealizedthattheirlovehadonlygrownstrongerwithtime.Theyknewthattheycouldn'tturnbacktheclockandstartover,buttheyalsoknewthattheydidn'tneedto.Theydecidedtotakeatripbacktothetownwheretheyhadfirstfalleninlove.Astheywalkedthefamiliarstreetsandvisitedtheplaceswheretheyhadspentsomanyhappydays,theyrealizedthattheirlovewasnotjustamemory-itwasaliving,breathingthing.Astheystoodonahilloverlookingthetown,holdinghandsandwatchingthesunset,Lilaknewthatshehadfoundwhatshehadbeensearchingfor.Theloveshehadburieddeepinherhearthadbeenwaitingforherallalong,andshewasfinallyreadytoletitshine.Astheymadetheirwaybacktothecar,LilaturnedtoAlexandsaid,"IneverthoughtI'dgetanotherchanceatlovelikethis.Thankyouforshowingmethatit'snevertoolatetorediscoverwhat'sbeenhiddenaway."
